ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) – An Ardmore man is spending the next few months in jail after pleading guilty to clandestine photography.
Court records say that Dalton Hurt took nude photos of four people, at least two of them minors, without the victims knowing.
Court documents show that after a psycho-sexual analysis and polygraph test, an officer withdrew his opinion that Hurt was a danger to the public.

When people think about young adults and South Korea, K-Pop is probably what springs to mind, but a new art form is rising to the top of Instagram feeds – visual art. Phoebe Taylor, Communications Adviser (Digital) at the Asia New Zealand Foundation was recently in South Korea as part of an arts tour that included a stop at one of the world’s largest art fairs: Frieze. Here, she reflects on the emerging art trends she saw and the way younger generations approach the art world.
South Korea’s art scene is dynamic. Some people tend to still carry a traditional view of Asia, but it’s not just lanterns and dragons. With public artworks on nearly every corner in Seoul, dotted around the city you’ll also find large museums exhibiting works on gaming with VR immersion pods, alongside smaller galleries exhibiting works by sculptor Anish Kapoor with lines out the door.

I was recently in South Korea with a group of New Zealand art curators to attend the Frieze Seoul art fair with the Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono. While assisting the delegation and getting content from the ground, I heard insights from the group of art fair-savvy curators, but it was impossible not to notice how the art scene differs from Aotearoa.
Given the population of Seoul alone is five times the size of Aotearoa, you would expect everything to operate on a larger scale anyway, but visual art gets a special mention. Not only is there a heck of a lot of public artworks around, but there’s also a huge, growing market for private collections and acquiring works.
For the first time in 2022, South Korea’s art market reached 1 trillion won ($750.85 million), according to data from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. And it continues to grow.
While I was, quite literally, walking through the art world in Seoul, I could see some notable emerging trends. There’s an emphasis on digital art and how it’s presented, and there’s also a rising trend of younger generations (Gen Z and millennials particularly) investing in the arts.

The rise of digital art and the enthusiasm from young collectors was evident at Frieze Seoul. Frieze is an international art fair that draws artists, galleries, and patrons from across the world, exhibiting works from major institutions. For Kiwis, think of it as the Fieldays of the art world. Entering the fair in the COEX Centre, attached to the enormous, maze-like Starfield Mall, you could easily guess who the organisers were trying to impress with the digital signage and influencer-targeted foliage photo walls.
Frieze is where art trends emerge. Looking around, I could see the push digital art was making and even Whanki Kim ‘father of Korean contemporary art’ had his pieces digitised in an exhibition by LG OLED, signifying a new way to present work.
Walking around Frieze Seoul as someone only just under the ‘millennial’ age group, I didn’t feel out of place. There were attendees of all ages, particularly from younger age brackets. While I’m not at New Zealand art fairs every weekend, this shift in audience age surprised me.

Seoul hosting Frieze is a big deal. It’s a recognition of Seoul’s growing significance as an art centre and it’s worth looking at what’s driving this art boom.
The assumption that art collecting and art fairs are only for older enthusiasts is not quite accurate. Gen Z and Millennials in South Korea are embracing newer ways of displaying and collecting art. They’ve grown up in the era of the internet, they’re not afraid of the transition to online platforms (anyone remember the hype of NFTs?) and they’re interested in exploring non-traditional pathways.
Investing in artwork as someone under 40 is becoming increasingly popular. In a report commissioned by the Korea Art Management Service (KAMS), Analysis of Korean Millennial and Generation Z Art Collectors, younger collectors (referred to in the article as ‘MZ’ – combining Millennial and Gen Z) are digital natives researching art through museum art classes and social media, and are apparently strongly influenced by celebrity art collector peers (including BTS’s RM, who posts about his passion for art and works from his collection, including a $1.2 million sculpture by American multidisciplinary artist Roni Horn).

And while MZs might follow trends set by their idols, there’s another, simpler reason they buy art: they like it.
Art investing is often seen as a rich person’s game. It’s impossible not to acknowledge the privilege of being able to participate in the world of visual art and yet, we’re seeing young South Koreans willing to invest in art earlier on and recognise its future value, like the way New Zealanders seem to do with houses. Perhaps South Koreans see art as an innovative way to invest considering the difficulty of purchasing real estate, or perhaps they place a higher value on art in recognising its longer-term value?
Maybe we should take a leaf out of the MZ handbook and reevaluate where and what we place our value on. There’s a lot to be said about the impact that interest from young adults can have. Look at the well–used example of TikTok: over 700 million users worldwide are between the ages of 18 and 34. This age group is used to breaking stats and setting new records.

Watching the trajectory of South Korea’s art scene and the engagement of younger demographics is fascinating, and we can see that it’s making a global impact with international art fairs drawing their attention to Seoul. Personally, I won’t be investing in NFTs, but I’ll keep watching K-Dramas and keeping an eye out for the latest trends.

Herman Leonard PhotographyPhotographs from Elton John and David Furnish’s private collection are due to go on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) next year.
Fragile Beauty will span from the 1950s to today and include portraits of jazz musicians Miles Davis and Chet Baker, and actress Marilyn Monroe.
The exhibition will also feature historic moments from the civil rights movement to Aids activism.
More than 300 prints from at least 140 photographers will be on show.
The news follows a “significant” donation to the museum from Sir Elton in 2019, which led to the V&A renaming one of its galleries after the singer and his filmmaker husband.
For this exhibition, curators have created eight thematic sections covering fashion, celebrity, the male body and American photography – with the show is set to be the largest temporary photography exhibition in the V&A’s history.
In a statement Sir Elton and Furnish said: “Since we first loaned a selection of Horst photographs to the V&A in 2014, our relationship with the museum has grown significantly.
“Fragile Beauty takes our collaboration to really exciting new heights, showcasing some of the most beloved photographers and iconic images from within our collection.
“We look forward to sharing this exhibition with the public.”
The exhibition is being curated by Duncan Forbes, the V&A’s head of photography, as well as Newell Harbin, director of The Sir Elton John Photography Collection, and Lydia Caston, the V&A’s exhibition project curator.
Mr Forbes said: “We are delighted to be working with Sir Elton John and David Furnish to present highlights from their unparalleled collection: from the playful and surprising, to the contemplative and thoughtful.
“Fragile Beauty will be a truly epic journey across the recent history of photography, and a celebration of Sir Elton John and David Furnish’s passion for the medium.”
Fragile Beauty: Photographs from the Sir Elton John and David Furnish Collection in partnership with Gucci will run from 18 May 2024 to 5 January 2025.

Symbols are woven into the fabric of society, and embedded with meanings. In New Mexico, our rich artistic heritage give those symbols a unique significance.
For many creators, life revolves around painting, weaving, and carving stories into art. New Mexico captures an unbroken chain of artistic imagination that has withstood the test of time.
Renowned Acoma potter Eric Louis makes every piece with an admiration for his lineage.
“My great-grandmother Marie Z. Chino is one of the most renowned potters from Acoma, so I can go back four generations,” said Louis.
This multigenerational legacy shows how passionate artists are to carry on the legacy passed down to them through families and communities.
Former KOB anchor and native New Mexican, Carla Aragon, is still inspired by our state’s mysticism.
“New Mexico is just such a jewel. We have that here, and so many times we take it for granted. We’ve had that here for centuries,” said Aragon.
The art created by generations in New Mexico has played a pivotal role in preserving their heritage and history.
New Mexico history author and scholar Mary Montaño studies that history, dating back thousands of years.
“Humans haven’t always been literate, and really the only way to understand your world or know what’s going on is to see pictures of it,” said Montaño.
Symbols and patterns, initially etched into the canvas of Mother Earth by Pueblo people thousands of years ago, eventually evolved into a form of language.
In Albuquerque, the Petroglyphs National Monument stands as a living form of the drawings made thousands of years ago. For the first time, symbols came to define the lifeblood of a population and found their voice.
Zapotec weavers like Alex Mendoza carry on the visual traditions of their people, ensuring that these symbols continue to thrive.
“Each of these motifs does have a meaning.” He represents the connection between art and culture, highlighting the significance of each symbol,” said Mendoza.
New Mexico has been home to legendary artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Will Schuster, R.C. Gorman, Judy Chicago, and Maria Martinez, whose works have made it into the history books.

“The majority of our designs are coming from nature, and that’s all of us, across all cultures,” said Louis.
Alex Dukepoo, a Laguna potter, acknowledges the legacy he is creating is important.
“[Art is a] representation that will outlive that person.” Eric Louis agrees, saying, “I feel that responsibility to teach my children. To me, it’s important to pass that on because it can captivate a new audience.”
Artistic momentum in New Mexico keeps clay in the kiln, chalk to paper, and paint on canvas. Thousands of years of art produced in this state prove that the possibilities for the evolution of creativity are endless.
The late Hubert Guerrand-Hermès lived the glamorous life of a bon vivant, a connoisseur of art in all its forms. He was, after all, the great-great-grandson of the founder of Hermès and a top executive of the luxury empire, helping transform it from a French leather-goods maker into an international style powerhouse.
An aesthete of the highest order, Hermès surrounded himself with the spoils of his art de vivre—Old Master paintings, royal French furniture, contemporary art—in his grand Parisian residence, the Hôtel de Lannion on the Left Bank. (The mansion faces the Musée d’Orsay, where he served on the board of directors.)
Seven years since his death, Sotheby’s Paris has announced it will auction his sprawling estate. Roughly a thousand works of art, rare books, and precious objects will be offered in four auctions from December 13 to 19. And, while the Lannion is no longer decked out with Hermès’s collection, Sotheby’s will recreate the opulent home for the duration of the sale.

“It is rare to find a collector with an equal passion and appreciation for classical arts, Old Masters, royal French furniture, cutting-edge design and the contemporary output of the likes of Lucio Fontana, Anselm Kiefer, Pierre Soulages,” said Mario Tavella, president of Sotheby’s France and chairman of Sotheby’s Europe. “You could definitely say he was an eccentric collector.”
“I recall many years ago we did a trip together in Scotland,” Tavella continued, “traveling around all of the historic houses and castles, and I recall being struck by his infinite curiosity.” Although one passion stood out from the rest. He harbored a most unusual fascination with Marie-Caroline, the Duchess of Berry. By marrying into the French royal family, the Italian princess became the daughter-in-law of King Charles X and the mother of the heir to the throne.

Hermès’s obeisance to her is visible in every room of the Lannion, from the staircase hung with paintings of her castle (château de Rosny) to the library containing 200 volumes that bear her crest. In fact, “he attempted to reassemble her library [in] his home,” Tavella explained.
The Duchess of Berry—an ancestor of Hermès’s wife, coincidentally—had been “a champion of the arts herself, subsidizing theater productions, commissioning notable works from the Sèvres porcelain factory and collecting paintings by the Dutch painter Jan van der Heyden, among others,” said Tavella. “He would come to the room [at Sotheby’s] and fiercely bid—particularly, as you can imagine, when we had a Duchesse de Berry sale. I wouldn’t hesitate to say that he was obsessed with her.”

The items with the highest estimates include bronzes from François-Xavier Lalanne’s bestiaire: a pair of monkeys estimated to yield €1 million–€2 million ($1.1 million–$2.1 million) and a pair of topiary boars. Period furniture, too, is featured prominently, in particular a chair that belonged to Marie-Antoinette, part of her boudoir, the Cabinet de la Meridienne, at the Palace of Versailles. The royal chair in regilded sculpted walnut from the Louis XVI period bears the stamp of Georges Jacob, ca. 1784–85.

Embarking on my journey as a landscape photographer has been a thrilling ride filled with exploration, challenges, and countless awe-inspiring moments. Over time, this pursuit has not only honed my technical skills but also imparted invaluable life lessons. In this article, I’m excited to share the five most significant insights I’ve gained as a landscape photographer, each of which has enriched my craft and my perspective on the world. They may also be applicable to you. Or, perhaps you have more to add?
One of the most enduring lessons landscape photography has taught me is the art of patience. Nature operates on its own timetable, and capturing the perfect shot often requires waiting for the ideal lighting conditions, weather patterns, or moments of serenity. Learning to wait, observe, and anticipate the right moment has translated into a valuable life skill, teaching me that not everything can be rushed or controlled.
This lesson in patience has led me to appreciate the beauty of the journey as much as the destination. It also helps me to slow down and in a world that is continually fast-paced. This is one of the things I’ve learned to enjoy the most about being a landscape photographer. After all, other than a yoga retreat, where else would you be able to sit around, take deep breaths, and wait for an hour or more until you take that perfect shot?
In the world of landscape photography, light is a dynamic and transformative force. I’ve learned that the interplay between light and shadow can turn an ordinary scene into an extraordinary spectacle. Understanding how different lighting conditions affect the mood and atmosphere of an image has heightened my sensitivity to the subtleties of the world around me. A scene which can seem mundane can spring to life in an instant, and by the same stroke, can return to mundane just as fast. Be ready to shoot, as the light will not wait for you to be ready. You need to be armed and ready for it. Additionally, it has taught me to know my camera very well, so that I’m not fumbling around with dials and settings when that moment arrives, only to miss the shot because I wasn’t ready. This can be very helpful on many occasion. However, when the light comes, it will change the scene totally, and any settings you had beforehand will be null and void at that moment. So, be ready with your setup too.
Landscape photography has deepened my connection with nature in profound ways. To capture the essence of a landscape, I’ve had to immerse myself fully in the environment, observing its details, textures, and nuances. This heightened sense of awareness has translated into a greater mindfulness in all aspects of life. As I frame a shot, adjusting composition and waiting for the perfect light, I’ve discovered a sense of harmony between myself and the world, fostering a deeper appreciation for the present moment. It is often at moments like this that a challenge or a problem that I have been having will unveil the solution to me, as my mind was so busy outside of this time that I wasn’t able to see the wood from the trees, literally.
Mother Nature is unpredictable, often reminding us that our plans can be easily disrupted. Weather changes, unexpected elements, and unforeseen challenges are all part of the landscape photographer’s journey. This experience has taught me the importance of adaptability and embracing uncertainty. Just as I’ve learned to pivot and make the most of unpredictable situations in photography, I’ve applied this resilience to navigate the twists and turns of life with a positive attitude and an open mind. A good friend of mine, Adam Gibbs, once said: “having expectations in landscape photography can only lead to disappointment.” While I agree in principle with this, I have also learned to expect the unexpected and take what comes my way regardless. I now have my own philosophy, which is bad conditions do not exist in landscape photography. There is always a shot. Granted, it may not be a banger, but it will be a shot of some kind, and more often than not, that shot isn’t as bad as you might think.
The pursuit of the perfect shot is a relentless endeavor that requires dedication and continuous improvement. Through the process of trial and error, I’ve discovered that success is built on a foundation of perseverance and a willingness to learn from failures. Landscape photography has shown me that growth occurs when we push ourselves beyond our comfort zones, experiment with new techniques, and embrace constructive criticism. This resilience has spilled over into other aspects of my life, reminding me that excellence is achieved through unwavering determination. If it was easy, then everyone would be doing it, and that’s not just applicable for photography. It is when it all works out that makes it all worthwhile, until, of course, the next shoot, when that chase begins once again.
My journey as a landscape photographer has been a profound education that extends far beyond the realm of photography. From patience and mindfulness to adaptability and perseverance, the lessons I’ve learned through my lens have enriched my perspective on the world and deepened my understanding of the human experience. Through the dance of light and shadow, the embrace of the unpredictable, and the pursuit of perfection, landscape photography has become a teacher, guiding me towards a more profound connection with nature, others, and myself. Above all, however, it’s the feelings that photography can give us, while shooting and also afterwards while editing and/or printing out images. Plus, along the way, I get to meet some pretty cool people who share this passion, and it is through this passion that I have formed great friendships too.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — He quit his banking post to pursue his passion for photography at the height of the pandemic.
Now, CJ Wolfe is using his creative studio to be the change he wanted to see… helping Philadelphia kids one photo at a time.
“When I started out in college, I didn’t have anyone that looked like me, nor had the resources to get into photography,” he said.
So, in 2021, CJ Wolfe decided to change that. He left financial advising and started Immortal Vision Studio.
Wolfe works there and rents the site to local photographers needing space.
In the first three years since opening, he and his staff have done more than 500 projects – serving clients from small businesses to major footwear companies.
But Wolfe says the success is deeper than the profits.
“I wanted my work to be more than just a photo that lives on a digital platform,” he said. “My job is to focus on the city’s Black and brown photographers under the age of 30 and give them the resources they need in order to chase their dreams like I did.”
Wolfe started a mentorship program focused on helping kids of color break into an industry where he says representation barely exists.
“This kick started my love for photography,” said Amir Gray.
Gra is a former intern, who now does digital and promotion work at Radio One in Philadelphia.
“Going to class, of course that’s going to help you learn. But actually getting in the field, doing the work – this is the real world, this is the best thing to learn from,” he said.
It’s a passion project, with a personal mission to be the change Wolfe wants to see.
“My goal is if I give them just three things that I didn’t know, that can take them to another level,” said Wolfe.

Canadian company Reveni Labs, known for its remarkably compact spot meter for analog photographers and recent automated film processing machine, has launched an affordable camera tester for repair technicians, store operators, resellers, and avid collectors.
As reported by Japan Camera Hunter and Kosmo Foto, the Reveni Labs Camera Tester promises to be exceptionally useful for the film camera community. The community agrees, having helped the camera tester eclipse its funding goal on Kickstarter with 28 days left in the campaign.
“Our favorite film cameras aren’t getting any younger. Just like any machine, they need care and maintenance to keep them working. However, the repair shops of the golden age of film are no longer in business, and many of the skilled technicians have passed away, taking their knowledge and experience with them. The tradition of passing down the trade to the next generation has broken,” explains Reveni Labs, highlighting how vital it is that not only people know how to repair cameras, but that they have access to the tools they need to make camera repairs possible.
One such tool is the Reveni Labs Camera Tester. It is a “modern device capable of advanced camera system analysis,” including curtain testing, leaf shutter efficiency testing, aperture testing, tools for frame centering for leaf shutters and lenses, and more.
The Camera Tester offers three-sensor horizontal and vertical curtain analysis, curtain-velocity compensated timing, single-sensor shutter efficiency and leaf shutter analysis, aperture and lens transmission testing, automatic exposure testing, multi-sample averaging, continuous shooting framerate testing, and flash sync input.
The device includes a backlit LCD graphical display, a 3-inch x 3-inch LED light panel, stainless steel jig rods, and powder-coated aluminum housing. Its software can be updated using USB, ensuring long-term practicality.
The new tester can analyze shutter speeds as fast as 1/12,000th of a second and shutter speeds as slow as one second. It can test apertures ranging from f/1.4 to f/32. It can do a lot, and Reveni Labs says that in ideal testing conditions, its measurements can be extremely precise. For focal plane shutter analysis, for example, it is precise to a microsecond.
The Reveni Labs Camera Tester has numerous accessory add-on options, including frames for different film formats, flashes, and cables. The Reveni Labs Camera Tester is available to backers for $500 CAD, which is about $365 USD. Reveni Labs expects that its sophisticated testing product will begin shipping in April 2024.

Starting November 1st in the Orcas Library, Lewis Francis will be displaying his black and white photos of the Southwestern US. Lewis states: “The shadowlands include the vast deserts of Utah, Nevada, New Mexico and California where beauty, solitude and silence offer shelter from the chaos of modern life.”
Lewis Francis was born and raised in Gibraltar, moved to the US in 1995, and lived in Southern California until 2020. His home is now Orcas Island where he lives with his partner and three dogs. Prior to moving to Orcas, he explored the amazing light and landscapes of the Southwest primarily and has been lucky enough to have his work shown around the country. Since he moved he has been exploring, and enjoying, the landscapes of our islands and the Pacific Northwest.
Lewis will be hosting a reception in the community room of the library on Saturday, November 4, from 4 – 6 p.m.
Chronophoto is an incredibly simple yet addictive immersive guessing game where players are presented with a series of random images and they have to guess what year a photo was taken. The game tests users knowledge of visual history by examining the details of each image to zero-in on the specific year or decade the photograph was taken.
The amusing photography web game, originally spotted by Amateur Photographer, uses images ranging from the early 20th century (1900) to the present day (2023) with points ranging from 0 to 1,000 per image depending on how close users get to the actual year. The game presents users with a series of five randomly selected images to build their scores and challenge their historical recognition abilities, with a maximum score of 5,000 points possible.
The game provides users with four modes of play, three of which are available on the web version of Chronophoto. These modes include “Classic” where players identify five images to hit the highest score possible, “Daily” where users are challenged with a new set of photos each day, and a “Party” mode that pits users against their friends in a battle for the highest score. On iPhone, the “Survival” mode asks users to guess the year of as many images as possible before they run out of lives.
Playing the game is straightforward whether using the app or web versions. Users simply open Chronophoto and select the game mode to start. Once the images open, users move the slider to the year they believe the photo was captured and click submit to test their skills. For challenging images, users can enlarge and zoom in on the images to try to see if there are any “giveaway” details in the shot to help identify the year the photo is from, and even see potentially telltale signs of film grain and colors, for the true analog experts.
After completing five rounds, users see their final scores which they can share or simply reset to start again with a fresh set of images. According to several posts online ranging from Reddit to random photo blogs, Chronophoto is a very fun, entertaining, and visually challenging game for photographers that could easily occupy a few hours of time when played with friends.
Chronophoto is available to play online through the official website, or to download from the Apple App Store for iPhones and iPad.
