Your Old Mansion series kicks off with ‘Guardians’ lecture
It was several years ago when we found ourselves seated inside a dimly illuminated wing of a farm/manor outside of Struer, Denmark, the very same bucolic estate Svend Olufsen and Peter Bang founded the luxury electronics brand Bang & Olufsen in 1925. We were there to experience the brand’s flagship Beolab 90 loudspeakers, the brand’s top tier model. And for half an hour we listened intently with nary a distraction, except for the occasional “ooh” and “ahh” that emerged while immersed in the life-like soundstage of a loudspeaker capable of going well beyond “11.” No surprise, noting the Beolab 90s are rated at a muscular 8,200W per speaker. So it goes without saying the listening session left an indelible imprint of aspirations we’re very unlikely to ever realize.
Now just imagine those tessellated towers of audio power bookending the newly announced LG MAGNIT, a monumental 136-inch Micro LED 4K UHD wall-hugging television that emphasizes the “cinema” in “home cinema.” That’s the premise between the recently announced bundle created between the Korean electronics manufacturer and their luxury Danish audio-visual counterparts, a home cinema system without compromise for those fortunate enough to consider such options for their living room or dedicated home theater space.
The 136-inch, 4K UHD (3840 x 2160), 120Hz-refresh-rate LG MAGNIT meets/exceeds picture sizes normally associated with a projection system. But where projector technology must sacrifice brightness and contrast by the nature of reflecting light off a surface rather than using a light-emitting screen, the MAGNIT’s microLED screen is capable of pumping out up to 2000 nits of peak brightness. That makes for a capable partner to the BeoLab’s commanding 14 channels of 300-watt ICE power amplifiers and 4 channels of 1,000-watt Class D Heliox amplifiers powering the floor-standing speaker’s 18 premium drivers.
The ultra-luxe cinema system was recently launched with a group of audio professionals and press in attendance to take in the enormity of a screen spanning 11-foot diagonally aided sonically by a pair of 4-foot tall speakers in person.
Just in case you’re wondering, the LG MAGNIT bundle is priced at a significant 1st-adopter premium of $381,392 – minus the professional aid likely required to install this grandest of grand home cinema systems into the home. For those who just want a mere moment with the LG x B&O system, you’ll have to make it down over to Bang & Olufsen’s Costa Mesa, California showroom where the LG MAGNIT and Beolab 90 hold court.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film available to rent on demand on Dec. 13
Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film available to rent on demand on Dec. 13

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — It’s been anything but a cruel summer — or year — or Taylor Swift.
Spotify Wrapped revealed Wednesday that Swift was the most-streamed artist globally in 2023, checking in with more than 26.1 billion streams since Jan. 1.
Rounding out the top five are Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, Drake and Peso Pluma.
Swift’s songs “Cruel Summer” and “Anti-Hero” came in as the sixth and 10th most-streamed songs globally, respectively. Her album “Lover,” was the seventh most streamed album.
It’s been quite the year for the Berks County native.
Swift’s Eras Tour broke records, then the movie release broke AMC Theatres presale records — the film will be available to rent on demand beginning Dec. 13. She released two re-recorded albums — “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” and “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).”
The Year of Swift didn’t just take over the music world — Swift entered the sports sphere by entering a relationship with Travis Kelce, the brother of Eagles legend Jason Kelce.
If you want to see how much Swift — or other artists — you listened to this year, here’s how to access your Spotify Wrapped.
It’s the time of the year where Spotify users get to see what artists they spent the most time with over the past year — but there’s a new wrinkle for 2023. Spotify Wrapped will not be limited to just the mobile app for iOS and Android.
Spotify said Wednesday that this year’s Wrapped will be available for the first time online at Spotify.com/Wrapped.
Users on their phone should see an option on the top menu on the Spotify app that says “Wrapped” — it should be the last option on the menu where it says “all,” music,” podcasts” and “audiobooks.”
Mobile users can also access Wrapped via the search section of the app — or even on the home screen. When users open the app, there will be a badge saying “Your 2023 Wrapped,” with a subtitle saying “Unwrap your listening highlights.”

Karma comes quickly for the Scrooge-esque character in Anna Mantzaris’ “Fuzzy Feelings,” a touching stop-motion animation about loneliness and compassion. A holiday ad for Apple that’s set to George Harrison’s “Isn’t It a Pity,” the short film features the Swedish animator’s signature felted cast (previously), particularly a gruff, selfish man who steals change from a charity and experiences fast retribution. As we soon learn, though, that character mirrors the curmudgeonly boss of a young woman, who’s created the fictional scenes to take imagined revenge on her superior. The story turns heartwarming when the woman realizes that her boss is alone for the holidays and uses her animated characters to remedy the problem.
Peek into Mantzaris’ process in the behind-the-scenes video below, and check out our conversation with the animator about her love for humor. (via Creative Boom)
