The Hydrant Directory catalogs dozens of unconventional color palettes found on the plugs, to use hydrant industry jargon. Started by Day Lane in May 2023, the archive indexes the coordinates and postal code of each entry, along with the height and date added. Most are located in Brooklyn, with a few additions from cities like Seattle and Syracuse, and users can sort the hydrants by color, size, location, and more.

Model Anok Yai Claims Photographer Called Her ‘Cockroach’ During ZARA Shoot | The Bay Area’s BIN 910
Rising model Anok Yai says a photographer called her a “cockroach” during a shoot for the clothing brand ZARA.
“Who wants to hear a story?” Yai said last month in a now-deleted Twitter post. “I remember in 2019 being called a cockroach by a photographer. It was from this brand that I used to always work with. I didn’t speak their language and they didn’t speak mine but regardless we were on set shooting look after look after look. (there were days I shot 60+ looks)”
“On the 2nd to last day, the makeup artist starts powdering my face and the photographer puts his camera down and yells ‘Lotion la cucaracha’ Everyone on set starts smiling and laughing,” she continued. “I can’t react the way I want to react because at the end of the day I’m young, I’m alone, I’m black … anything that I do will affect me, my family, and other black models.”
Yai said she decided to speak up for herself by refusing to work with the photographer the next day.
“The next morning I refuse to go on set if the photographer is still there. Someone from the team calls me and says ‘we don’t accept that type of behavior, we’ll fire him now. Tell me who he is and we’ll get rid of him.’ I go to set thinking he’s gonna be gone. He walks by me and smiles,” the model said.
Yai went on to allege that the team claimed she “made up” the incident.
“Someone from the team pulls me aside and says ‘I asked the team what happened and they said you made it up. Honestly, whenever you come here, you’re never smiling and you’re never happy to be here,” she wrote on Twitter.
“By now, there’s tears running down my face,” Yai continued. “I told her I wasn’t lying, she still doesn’t believe me. But I could tell she wanted me to sit down and shut up so I forced them to call my car to the airport and pay my full rate regardless. I remember wanting to come out with the story to magazines but I was told “think about what it will do to your career” That was my first (and not only) time being blacklisted I’m sure they thought I wasn’t strong enough to stand But anyways …”
The model appeared to confirm that she was working with the ZARA team during the alleged incident.
“Hi bit*h @ZARA Remember Me?” she tweeted.
Yai later deleted her tweets, and ZARA hasn’t addressed her allegations.

All-Indigenous Artists Collective Creative Nations Launches First Storyteller’s Festival To Develop Works For The Stage By Native Artists Sept 30-Oct 6th, 2024

(Boulder, CO – May 8, 2024) – Creative Nations, an all-Indigenous-led artists collective founded at The Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, is thrilled to announce the inaugural First Storyteller’s Festival (FSF). This groundbreaking event is dedicated to nurturing works for the stage by Native artists and storytellers. FSF 2024 will take place from Sept. 30th through Oct. 6th at multiple locations across Boulder County.
The festival will feature a dynamic lineup of events designed to support and showcase the diverse talents of Native playwrights, musicians, poets, dancers, and other storytellers. Attendees can look forward to a diverse range of events including staged readings, panel discussions, workshop productions, and educational workshops aimed at training both current and future generations of Native theater artists.
Marty Strenczewilk, festival founder, Ojibwe playwright and Creative Nations Managing Director, expressed his excitement, saying, “As a playwright, I’ve always dreamed of being part of a festival built by Native artists that focused on developing work by Native artists. Being able to bring FSF to life has been something I’ve been working on for quite a long time and the outpouring of community support has been incredible. I believe FSF will serve as a vital platform for amplifying Native voices and stories.”

The exhibit features thirteen captivating photographs from the “Reimagined Landscapes: Iceland” series.
Reimagined Landscapes: Iceland
During August and September of 2006, Attila Ataner embarked on a transformative journey to Iceland. His memories of this magical place are intertwined with its awe-inspiring landscapes. Iceland’s vast open spaces, boundless skies, towering mountains, tranquil streams and ponds, rugged black rocks, volcanic sands, mossy stones, and crashing ocean waves left a lasting impression on him. The country’s soft, misty light on some days and stark, sunny contrasts on others merged in his memory. Over time, these recollections evolved, prompting him to reimagine and re-edit his photographs to convey a more authentic depiction of his experiences. These images reflect how Iceland resides in his mind and heart today, frequently revisited in his dreams.
To produce these final images, Ataner combined and blended various sets of photos from his trip. He also re-framed them in a 1:2 aspect ratio, inspired by traditional Asian scroll paintings, to highlight the unity between Earth and Sky.

Shannon Collins clicks camera for queer couples with niche photography business
ABINGTON, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — Shannon Collins is an Abington-based photographer who works predominantly with queer couples shooting weddings and portrait sessions.
Collins identifies as non-binary and queer, as well as autistic and disabled – so they really understand the needs of the community they serve.
Collins finds ways to give back, like a program they founded two year-s ago to donate photo sessions to trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming youth in the Philadelphia area.
They also co-host a monthly meetup with Abington Township Public Library for virtual discussions among LGBTQ+ kids and allies.
Collins’ brand values include fluidity, duality, and especially connection – which is what keeps them in demand in business, as well as in their own personal growth.
