Francesco Saverio Tani’s work is all about pushing the boundaries of the human form. Working in the mediums of photography and Photoshop, his work is always sure to have an uncanny twist. Based in Milan, Francesco often calls upon memories and rich imagery associated with his childhood for inspiration; enchanting fairy tales; kitschy trinkets in his grandmothers’ houses; toys and illustrations; meme culture; the lasting allure of Disney’s animated classics – creating surreal entities that exude irony.

Much of Francesco’s imagery deals with both the familiar and uncanny all in one image, so it’s no wonder that at first glance his imagery can feel quite unsettling. “I see-saw between taking myself seriously and embracing fun and nonsense,” he tells us. Balancing both the ridiculous and a dedicated artistic process that puts the human form through a metamorphosis of sorts, makes for a captivating union that never fails to rope us in.
