RACINE — A Racine native has been selected to fill a newly created role at the Milwaukee Art Museum aimed at expanding visitor experience, and he credits his Racine Unified School District education with helping him arrive at this point in his life.
The museum announced Scott Schwebel’s hiring Monday for the chief experience officer role.
Schwebel said he attended Stephen Bull Fine Arts School in Racine, and his time there kicked off his long career as a professional creative.
“That school had an absolutely formidable impact on my entire life. I have been able to enjoy a career of being a creative because of the exposure and education I got at that school in Racine, which I am forever grateful for,” Schwebel said. “I will always credit my art and creative education as a kid in Racine for helping propel not only my interest, but my understanding and enthusiasm for actually having a career being creative.”

Schwebel’s interest in the Milwaukee Art Museum started with a field trip in second grade. It was the first museum Schwebel had ever been to.
He said the museum made an impact on him, which continued to influence his childhood, young adulthood and his professional career.
Before getting the position at the museum, Schwebel worked as the creative innovator for Colectivo Coffee in Milwaukee and helped the brand expand nationally. He also worked with J. Jeffers for the rehabilitation of the historic Horlick manufacturing site in Racine.
Schwebel was chosen following a nationwide search that yielded a candidate pool of more than 125 people.
“Scott’s appointment to this role completes the Museum’s talented senior leadership team, catalyzing our ability to advance the visitor experience not just as a means to an end but, rather, as a core pursuit in its own right,” Marcelle Polednik PhD. said in a press release. “Together, we will build on the momentum we’ve established coming out of the pandemic era to truly rise to the opportunities afforded by our beautiful campus, iconic collection, and inimitable team.”
Scwebel said he wants to thread together all aspects of the museum in his role as chief experience officer.
“I’ve pioneered a lot of technological consumer experiences, or amplified or dimensionalized products or the storytelling and narrative around them,” Schwebel said. “I’m bringing all aspects of my creative portfolio to bear in this role.”
Movie critic Bruce Miller says “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” is spectacular and easy to watch, though it may be a long sit for some viewers. Swift’s lyrics hit the target right in the heart.
