Q: Why did you want to start this kind of business?

A: I would go get professional photos taken of myself, and I loved how it made me feel. I felt beautiful, I looked beautiful, but it was expensive. Made me realize not everyone could afford to have photos taken. I wanted to show others just how beautiful they are at an affordable price.

Q: How did you get your start?

A: I got my first camera in 2016 and mainly took nature photos and objects. I found it was harder to capture people, and I was frustrated at how difficult it was for me. In 2019, I volunteered for the MS Society for one of their walks and saw that I had an opportunity to give back while learning to take photos of people. In 2020, I was set to volunteer eight times for the MS Society, but then the shutdown happened. So, I offered my services to any graduating 2020 senior. I had 19 lovely young ladies come out to my property, most in their prom dresses, and I took their photos, gaining some more experience with people. In 2020, I also learned that my struggles with math and numbers and a few other things had a name, the disability is called “dyscalculia.” When I read what that was, I broke down crying. My whole life finally made sense. The struggles I had with learning the camera settings and maintaining that information finally made sense. My brain is wired differently, and I need constant repetitive use or I can’t remember. I’ve been blessed that all my clients have been patient and understanding.

Q: What does your business sell or provide?

A: I offer a wide variety of photography needs. From maternity to family to babies to animals to “milk baths in the woods.” I have worked to fill my portfolio with many different photography styles to cater to most needs.

Q: What is the biggest challenge you are facing right now?

A: There are a lot of really amazing photographers out there, but there are not many affordable options. It’s not easy as a small business who doesn’t charge a lot for services to afford to get my information out there. I do get out word of mouth, and I have many repeat clients. Each time I’m given an opportunity, I get better at it.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do or place in Cumberland County?

A: Because I am an outdoor/natural light photographer, I love that Cumberland County has so many amazing and beautiful areas to use as backdrops for my sessions. I’m not stuck inside a stuffy studio; nature is my backdrop and because of that, the options are endless.
