The curtains have closed on the uproarious spectacle of the 2023 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, a global stage where humour and wildlife converge in a riot of laughter!
In a fierce battle of lens wit, Jason Moore has emerged victorious as the Overall Winner, reigning supreme over 5300 extraordinary entries from 1842 entrants representing 85 countries. His winning shot, titled ‘Air Guitar Roo,’ freezes a kangaroo in a whimsical pose that strikes a chord with comedic brilliance.
The laughter echoes beyond the spotlight, as the Awards bestow recognition upon 6 Category Winners and celebrate 10 Highly Commended Winners. Among the latter is Pratick Mondal, an entrant hailing from India, honoured for his captivating capture of a Macaque and Deer, titled ‘Look at Right, Bro’.
Unveiling the behind-the-scenes of his shot, Mondal revealed: “The photo was taken in Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur, Rajasthan, India. This park is heaven for nature lovers, full of lush greenery and habitat of mammals and migratory birds.
“During my trip, I planned for Jackal and Hyena shooting apart from birds. Upon reaching the spot, I was waiting for the moment to capture. Suddenly a deer in the far distance appeared on the road and stood exactly in the middle of the road and started looking at me. Seeing the arc behind the deer I tried to capture the frame I pre-visualized. Suddenly, a Macaque also came in the middle of the road and started itching, extending its hand outside which was hilarious. Without further delay, I captured the beautiful and rare moment of “Itching Macaque with deer in the background.”
