POST, Texas (KCBD) – Just a few weeks ago, drivers in Post, Texas, could spot a blank wall right off US Highway 84 between 10th and Main Street. That wall has since been drastically transformed, thanks to street artist Calina “Cal” Mishay.

What was once a blank and beige canvas now displays a wide assortment of spray-painted flowers and cacti. By the end of the year, Cal hopes to have done the same to three other unknown spots in town.

“We were able to put some color in here and put some flowers, and now when you drive down it’s just as exciting, right?,” Mishay said. “It’s like ‘If this is here, there must be some other neat things going on in Post’, and there is!”

The original project has considerably grown from what Cal had envisioned originally.

“We were going to actually do only do half the wall, and it turned into the whole wall once you got started, which is great,” she said.

While the Rule, Texas-native wants people to stop and admire her hard work, she also wants visitors to take in Post as well.

“We want people to stop and take pictures and selfies, and post that they were in Post, Texas. True to the heart of West Texas, where we are the history here, the people here, and just images and things that we’re used to seeing – but in a new, fresh, colorful way that also catches the eye of the tourists and people who just want to take a pretty picture in front of something and post on their social media to let people know where they’re at shopping that day,” Mishay said.

“And the whole goal is not just to do pretty murals, but how do we use these murals and help people want to find Post, explore Post, know what Post is about.”

In the midst of her hard work, Cal plans to step aside this Saturday, and enjoy the town’s main holiday event, “Light Up Post”.

“That’s all I’ve been hearing about is ‘Light Up Post,’ and so I’m going to definitely take that day off,” she said. “Maybe I’ll work a little bit so people can see the artists at work, but I also want to do all the things that there is to do during “Light Up Post”. It’s gonna be really fun.”
