A holiday event for jazz lovers will be taking place in New Bern on Friday.

Team Henry8, owned by James Henry and Mike Weaver Productions will present Grown Folks Groovin Holiday Jazz with saxophonist Jashaun Peele and a special presentation to honor jazz vocalist and composer, the late Jann White Parker, on Friday, Dec. 1 at the Knights of Columbus, 1125 Pinetree Dr. In a previous article, Henry shared his love of live music and how excited he is to present this series of shows to the local community. Henry and Weaver are especially thrilled to be able to honor Parker, who continued to support the local jazz community in Craven County even after she moved from the area.

Parker was a native of New Bern and founded the Jazz Preservation Society in 2003. According to an obituary posted on Oscar’s Mortuary Inc.’s website, Parker passed away on Feb. 18 of this year in Harlem, NY where she had resided for many years.

Jashaun Peele, who started playing the saxophone at seven years old, currently resides in Raleigh and works as a professor at Guilford Technical Community College and is a real estate agent. He is a graduate of Elizabeth City State University.

The show starts at 8 p.m. with a VIP w/ artist Meet and Greet beginning at 7 p.m.

This event will be the last one for the year, but the team is already in the process of a Valentine’s Day show scheduled for 8 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Knights of Columbus. The show will feature Billboard Top 20 saxophonist Jason Jackson, a native of Wilmington.
