The State Gazette is excited to announce the 2024 Capturing Mid-South Life Photography Contest, a spinoff of the Dyer County Photography Club’s former photo Shoot Dyer County contest, which welcomed hundreds of beautiful images every year, with winning images highlighted in the State Gazette’s publication of Destination Magazine.

Unlike Shoot Dyer County, the contest will be open to all residents of West Tennessee, Northern Mississippi, Northeast Arkansas, Southwest Kentucky, and the Missouri bootheel.

The contest is sponsored by the Dyersburg-Dyer County Chamber of Commerce.

“The State Gazette is excited to welcome a photography contest back to, not only our community but to our entire region,” said State Gazette Managing Editor Rachel Townsend. “There has never been a shortage of talent in West Tennessee, especially when it comes to photography. We are excited to provide this opportunity and look forward to seeing all the amazing images captured by amateur photographers across West Tennessee and four of our bordering states.” 

The contest opens to the public beginning February 7 and will close on April 30. 

Submissions are $10 each. Multiple submissions are allowed. 

Submissions will be judged by an outside panel. Winners will be announced no later than May 13.

Categories will include: Lifestyle, Landscapes & Architecture, Wildlife and Pets, Abstract and Object, Sports, and Food.

Images must not contain violence or nudity. Images must be the original work of the individual submitting the entry. All photos must be submitted in 300 d.p.i. 

Submissions will be judged by an outside panel. Winners will be announced no later than May 13. 

One overall winner will be selected to receive a $300 prize, a framed copy of their work, and a 12-month subscription to the State Gazette. Each category winner will receive a $100 prize, a free 2024 Shoot Dyer County hard copy photograph book, and a framed copy of their work.
