Sydney, Australia, Feb 27 (EFE).- Australian Police were investigating the father of American pop singer Taylor Swift for allegedly assaulting a photographer in Sydney on Tuesday shortly after the conclusion of her Australian tour.

“Police have been told a 71-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old man at Neutral Bay Wharf (in northern Sydney) about 2.30am, before leaving the location,” New South Wales Police told EFE in a statement on Tuesday.

The incident was reported to the authorities and “inquiries are now underway” by officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command, the police said without providing further details.

Australian media identified the alleged aggressor as the multiple Grammy winner’s father, Scott Swift, who was accompanying his daughter.

McDonald, the alleged victim, claimed that Swift’s father punched him while he was attempting to photograph the singer as she disembarked from a super-yacht at Neutral Bay.

“I was just out on the job chasing Taylor. Security (guards) sort of pushed us around with the umbrellas. Then her dad decided to add to the mix and throw a punch in,” McDonald told Sydney Morning Herald.

“It was a shock (…) There was no need for it, the security had it under control. I’ll leave it in the police’s hands now,” the photographer added.

A spokesperson for the singer told the American magazine People that two individuals were “aggressively pushing” towards Taylor, grabbing her security guard, and threatening to throw a female team member into the water.

However, McDonald rejected the spokesperson’s response as an “an absolute lie,” and an attempt to “change the narrative” of the incident.

Taylor Swift, a 12-time Grammy award-winning artist, performed at seven concerts between Feb. 16-26 in Sydney and Melbourne as part of her “The Eras Tour.”

She is scheduled to continue her tour in Asia with six more concerts in Singapore from Mar. 2-9, before heading to Europe. EFE
