LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) – The Texas Forestry Museum’s Nature Art Spotlight will have a new display of photographs that showcase the talents of a local young artist.

“This is our first opportunity to change them over and highlight a new person and so we’ve chosen Kinley Shockley, she is a junior as Lufkin High School,” Kendall Gay, the museum director, said.

“I love nature and I wanted to specifically portray that love for nature and the love for honestly the outdoors,” Kenley Shockley, the exhibit’s photographer, said. “It really expresses a piece of me.”

The main goal of the nature exhibit is to educate people, mostly out of town visitors, on what East Texas has to offer, forests.

“They think it’s going to be like West Texas, like a John Wayne movie when they get here, they are very surprised at how many trees we have.,” Gay said. “So, I think one of the best ways to educate people is to show our piney woods through the eyes of artists who see the beauty in it.”

They plan on displaying Kenley’s artwork for at least a year.

“I started here doing photography, the first time I actually took pictures for an event was here and I absolutely enjoyed it,” Kenley said. “I loved it so much, and the fact that they would give me the chance to do this means a lot.”

The exhibit will not change frequently; however, they are always looking for artists to work with.

“Just come by and visit us and maybe you can be the next person,” Gay said.

The museum will have an opening for the exhibit to support Kinley, Friday 19th starting at 5 p.m.

Kenley Shockley, a photographer and senior at Lufkin High School, will have work featured in the Texas Forestry Museum in Lufkin.

The opening for the exhibit featuring her nature photography will be Friday at 5 p.m.
