MARTINSBURG — Since 2016, Jenny Dicola has owned and operated Jenny Lynn Photography, creating professional-looking headshots for local people and businesses.
On Friday, she joined city officials to celebrate the opening of a new studio, located at 100 W. Martin St.
Dicola moved to her new studio location when she decided she had outgrown the old studio on King Street. She first started the business out of her home in 2016, with the business taking off faster than she expected it to, taking photos for clients and even working for a local magazine and a local restaurant.
Eventually, she made the decision to get a studio in downtown Martinsburg.
“I’m just so honored to be downtown. I was born in the ‘70s, so I’m a native, and I used to come downtown with my mom, and I remember all the shops. And then there was a period of time where it just kind of became a ghost town,” Dicola said. “And just to be a part of the revitalization here, I’m just honored and humbled by everyone who’s showed up and the support of our community.”
Dicola focuses primarily on headshots, with her website referring to the new studio as “the headshot lounge.” She said she tries to create an environment where people are comfortable having their picture taken.
In her new studio, she focuses on taking headshots for professionals, working with local clientele like banks and attorneys.
“I’m really focused on corporate photography, so I’ve narrowed my focus to that, and people have responded,” Dicola said. “So, I’ve gotten a lot of local industries, attorneys, banks, they’re all coming to me. I’m just really grateful to have that support and validation.”
The new studio is located in part of what was once the historic Shenandoah Hotel, which has become a new home for multiple businesses since renovation efforts a few years ago.
Jenny Lynn Photography joins businesses like Merely Creative in giving new life to the old building.
“This is beautiful,” Martinsburg Mayor Kevin Knowles said. “This hotel here has been a revitalization of different places to live, different businesses.”
Knowles also said he gets his headshots done by Dicola.
“One thing with Main Street (Martinsburg) is we’re really big on economic revitalization,” said Raven Lamp, events coordinator for Main Street Martinsburg. “She took this building and really made it beautiful and improved the real estate.”
