DEADWOOD, S.D. – Portrait photographer and artist Kary Janousek will delve into the historical beginnings of photography and its societal impacts. Attendees will gain insight into the wet plate collodion process, its specific role in history from the 1850s to the late 1880s, and its relevance in contemporary society. The demonstration will involve posing a sitter, creating the plate, taking the exposure, and fixing it on site for attendees to witness the results.

Additionally, three additional sittings will be available for $75 each at 2:30, 3:00, and 3:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring a lunch and enjoy the presentation on the Historic Adams House lawn at 12:00 noon; the event is free for members and $5 for non-members. In the event of rain, the lecture will be relocated to the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center (HARCC).
