Craig Fairweather, a self-employed businessman and artist from Fern Gore, is rekindling his passion for art. Known to the art world as Craig Jones, Fairweather initially began his career as a photographer, capturing significant life events such as weddings and christenings. However, his growing interest in drawing and painting led him to take art classes, reawakening a dormant love for the craft.

Artistic Evolution

Fairweather’s artistic evolution has been remarkable. His works span a diverse range of subjects – from celebrities and movie characters to landscapes and local scenes. Some of his most notable works include oil paintings of Fern Gore’s sunset, the Coppice in Accrington, and the autumnal views of Priestley Clough. He also transformed his photograph of the Jackhouse Nature Reserve into a captivating painting, demonstrating his ability to blend his love for photography with his newfound passion for painting.

A Look at Craig’s Iconic Figures

Among Fairweather’s works are art pieces featuring iconic figures such as the Joker, the Godfather, Marilyn Monroe, and Audrey Hepburn. These have contributed to his rising fame in the art world. It’s this diversity of subjects, combined with his commitment to experimenting with different mediums like acrylics, pens, markers, and oil paints over the past five years, that has earned him recognition and a growing fan base.

Turning Passion into a Business

Despite the success and recognition, Fairweather’s artistry remains a hobby. But the 54-year-old aspires to transform it into a full-fledged business. His art has already found homes in local galleries such as the Haworth Art Gallery and the Blackburn Art Gallery. His creations have also been sold in art shops and auctions. Beyond his artwork, Fairweather’s creativity extends to crafting Buddhas and garden ornaments. This multi-faceted talent has been self-employed for two decades, founding his business, Mantronica, in 2003. His art can be viewed on his Facebook and Instagram page, titled ‘Craig Jones Artist’.

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – Local students spent part of their summer learning through a lens.

With a front-row seat to the Levitt AMP concert series in Harrisonburg, they got to fine-tune their photography skills with the help of a local professional.

Now, their work is on display for the public to see.

Bob Adamek is a local, professional photographer who has spent years shooting concerts and so far, 99 music festivals. He also serves as the head photographer for Harrisonburg City Public Schools. This summer he added mentor to his title when he took on 10 local high school and college students to help them with their photography skills at concerts.

Adamek held workshops and worked with the students each week on what it’s like to shoot a concert series.

”I could see the growth in their images a lot of the kids were very good shooters already … it was just coming to the specifics of being able to do concert photography as well as trying to capture the vibe of the show,” Adamek said.

Adamek said all of the students had experience with photography before.

“Once I got to the first concern I was able to become more comfortable with what I was doing and the more I went to the concerts the more I figured out how I can suit my pictures to get them the best they can be and also I figured out the best way to edit them and the best way to make them look the best, so it was definitely a big learning experience for me,” Adrian Kavazovic, a senior at Harrisonburg high school said.

The students raved about how Adamek helped them get out of their comfort zones when it came to shooting concerts.

“He helped us all realize no matter what experience level you come from it doesn’t really matter because it is the person behind the camera not the camera itself,” Brigid Banks, a sophomore at Blue Ridge Community College said.

All 10 students’ art is now on display at the Arts Council of the Valley in downtown Harrisonburg.

“I’m just excited to see everyone’s stuff together and the different perspectives they had because everyone was at the same event but saw something completely different which is really cool,” Ava Schrag, a sophomore at VCU said.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The Crisp Museum at Southeast Missouri State’s River Campus is showcasing the work of late photographer Bob Willoughby.

Willoughby was the first outsider photographer invited into movie studios. His work took off in 1954 when he was asked to work with Judy Garland, and his photographs became instantly recognizable.

Backstage Hollywood: Photography of Bob Willoughby features 91 naturalistic images of actors in times of vulnerability.

Museum manager and curator Jim Phillips described what allowed Willoughby to be able to capture these moments.

“The studios were bringing in these photographers. Rather than getting an assignment from the labor union, he turned those personal invitations into friendships, which allowed people to be less guarded around him,” he said.

The exhibit will be on display through Sunday, and the museum will be open from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) – In Owensboro, The RiverPark Center hosted “Through Sleet’s Eyes” Friday night.

The event highlighted the work of Moneta Sleet Jr., who has taken award winning historical photos.

It featured special exhibits with his work, a documentary, and a jazz band.

“It’s just one of those things that’s so incredible to realize that somebody from Owensboro can go on and change history, and Sleet truly documented some of the biggest moments in our past,” said Festival Chair Emmy Woosley.

Organizers say they’re planning more projects to highlight Sleet’s work.

Hodge, a former yoga instructor from Austin, Texas, is introducing the locals to the intriguing world of aura photography. During a session at Aura Theory, the hand plates purportedly read the person’s energetic frequency. This reading translates into a visual depiction of their aura, filled with a myriad of colors. Each color, according to Hodge and proponents of this practice, speaks volumes about the individual’s traits and states of being, offering a profound and personal insight into their life.

Interpreting the Colors of the Aura

But the process does not end with the photograph. Hodge, who returned to Virginia Beach from Denver in 2023, also provides readings to interpret these colors. These interpretations are said to offer validation and self-awareness, helping people understand themselves better, and perhaps even guiding them towards personal growth and healing.
