HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES: Mini Engineer Corner: Create beautiful origami designs and discover how this traditional Japanese art form is an inspiration in the field of engineering. Gyotaku Printmaking: Learn about fish in the Great Lakes Basin while making a print from a fish form. Learn about this traditional printmaking technique still used by Japanese fishermen, or Gyotaku (Gyo “fish”, Tako “print”). This ancient technique used to document the “catches of the day” is still utilized today by fishermen and artists. EDUCATIONAL MOMENTS Star Light Design Challenge: Join in on an all-ages design challenge inspired by a collaborative garment created by Domonique Louis, Jackie Monin, Jennifer Takatch, Maria Basil, Penny Haley, Steve Takatch, and Nancy Gong (an RMSC Changemaker!). You’ll learn about how this garment is connected to the Strasenburgh Planetarium! STEM in Rochester: Interact with hands-on games and information about local Changemakers with Asian and Pacific Islander heritage. You’ll uncover their important contributions and activism that have helped shape the landscape of Rochester.
