The Portage Station Museum, 400 Lee St., Portage, is having its annual fundraiser book sale. All genres of used books are priced to sell. CD, DVD and VHS tapes are also on sale. The sale will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday until the end of December. All proceeds benefit the museum.
Frontier Girls plan ‘Small Town Christmas’
Frontier Girls Troop 213 will host its sixth annual “A Small Town Christmas” on Saturday, Dec. 2, in Gallitzin.
Activities begin at 10 a.m. and include activities throughout the day including Cookies with Santa, food and craft vendors, a scavenger hunt, carriage rides, a basket raffle, a parade, tree lighting and more.

The group is seeking participants to help light up the town for the Christmas parade. Line-up begins at the Gallitzin Fire Hall at 5:30 p.m. There will be judging before the parade. The parade begins at 6 p.m.

Penn Association plans Christmas party
The William Penn Association, Branch 800, Altoona Christmas party will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday,
Dec. 3, at the Prime Sirloin Buffet, Duncansville.
Cost is $5 per person. There is no charge for children 12 and younger. Members who plan to attend should call Dan Greiner by Nov. 22 at 814-943-7471. There will be a visit from Santa, and everyone will receive a gift.

SAMA Biennial calls for artist applications
BEDFORD — The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art is accepting applications for the Biennial 2024 juried art exhibition.
The exhibition will take place from July 26 through Oct. 20, 2024.
It offers an opportunity for artists in the region to be recognized for their work. Every two years, SAMA hosts a unique opportunity for new and emerging artists to exhibit alongside some of the most talented and experienced artists in the area.
Cash awards will include a top prize of $1,000 for Best in Show, together with a $500 first-place award, a $250 second-place award and a $100 third-place award. In addition, there will be a $300 People’s Choice Award, to be chosen by visitors to the exhibition.

Award winners to be announced at the Awards Reception on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. Registration opens Friday, May 3. ArtsAltoona plans Holiday Market Dec. 2
ArtsAltoona and the Unter Uns Musical Society will hold the Christkindl Holiday Market from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Unter Uns Musical Society, 1401 Van Buren Ave., Altoona. This will be an outdoor event in the Unter Uns back patio and stage area.
Some food, drinks and entertainment will be indoors.
This event features live music and entertainment, art and craft vendors selling holiday gifts and artistic creations, German cuisine and food trucks, adult beverages, kids activities, raffles and more.
Admission is $5 at the door, and kids under 12 will be admitted free.

Eagle project involves Gold Star memorial
Michael Waibel Maharaj, a member of Boy Scout Troop 3032 from First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg, has launched his Eagle Scout Project.
The project involves creating a Gold Star Mothers Memorial at Legion Park, Hollidaysburg.
Work on the monument has started and plans are for it to be completed by the end of January.
The project will cost more than $11,000. Donations are welcome and can be monetary, in-kind or material.
