Eureka School hosting exhibit featuring Hattiesburg photographer Earlie Hudnall Jr.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – Hattiesburg’s Historic Eureka School is hosting a unique exhibit of photographs from a Hub City native and Marine Corps veteran, who worked in the field of photography for more than 40 years.

An opening reception was held Saturday for an exhibit called, “Capturing Community.”

The exhibit includes 40 black and white photos taken by Earlie Hudnall Jr.

Hudnall was born in Hattiesburg and served in the Vietnam War before becoming a long–time staff photographer for his alma mater, Texas Southern University.

“It’s Texas photos, from the Third Ward primarily, in Houston, but it’s a reflection of Hattiesburg as well,” Hudnall said. “The universality of the human spirit is what I tend to try to capture with my work.”

The exhibit. which runs thro9ugh Aug. 31, is free of charge and open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to bring such a renowned photographer, who’s local to the area, back to showcase his work in the town he grew up in, with the community he grew up with,” said Vanessa Molden, Hattiesburg’s Sixth Street Museum District operations/education supervisor.

Hudnall retired from Texas Southern University in 2020.
