The International African American Museum (IAAM) has announced a special exhibition by legendary photographer Ming Smith to be featured in the museum until early spring.

Ming Smith: Feeling the Future will be on display from Jan. 31 through April 28, 2024. The exhibition explores the career of Ming Smith, from the early 1970’s to present day.

Smith’s first exhibition at a major institution will be making the trip from the Contemporary Art Museum in Houston to the IAAM in the Lowcountry.

The exhibition highlights the cultural movements Smith has experienced in her over five-decade long career. Feeling the Future explores themes such as Afrofuturism, Black cultural expression, representation, and social examination.

A reception will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at the museum and guests will have the opportunity to engage with solo Smith about her career and legacy. The museum will be open from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. that evening for self-guided tours.
