“You get to do whatever you want to do,” organizer Amy Denet Deal told performer Edwin Felter of Nambé Pueblo at a rehearsal for a fashion and dance show.

Her words epitomized what the show — an “art experience” called ++ ILLUMINATE ++ — intends to do: Build a safe space for both established and emerging Indigenous artists to express their creativity.

Denet Deal’s Santa Fe fashion store 4KINSHIP partnered with the International Museum of Dance, a nonprofit with a chapter in Santa Fe, to organize the Saturday evening event at the Center for Contemporary Arts. The show will combine music, dance and fashion, and five main performers, a mix of locals and artists, range from one person making a debut performance to the world-renowned and TikTok-famous dancers ShanDien Sonwai LaRance and James Jones, also known as Notorious Cree.
