Do you love viewing and photographing the spectacular fall colors of Transylvania County and the Blue Ridge Mountains? If so, you will not want to miss the Sept. 21 meeting of the Land of Waterfalls Camera Club. The featured presentation will be “Chasing the Fall Color” by professional photographer and Brevard resident Les Saucier.

In his love of fall color Saucier has traveled to many locations: the high Colorado Rocky Mountains, the New England shores, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and the rolling hills of Georgia. In his presentation Saucier will show some of his favorite fall color images. He will offer tips on celebrating the beauty of fall color right in the the Southern Appalachian Mountains.

Saucier has a master’s degree in field biology and has been a professional photographer for more than 30 years. He has been a teacher of nature photography for much of that time. He was drawn to the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and became a permanent resident 23 years ago. 

Saucier lives in Brevard with his wife and fellow photographer, Janet Garrity Saucier. In 2018 the couple published the photography book “Mountain Blue, the Beauty and Grandeur of America’s Southern Appalachian Mountains.” Their book can be purchased locally at Highland Books on Main Street or by contacting the Sauciers directly.

The second half of the September LOWCC meeting will be a “Shoot and Show.” During this segment photographs recently taken by LOWCC members will be presented. Each photographer will briefly describe the image and its location, followed by discussion and suggestions on ways the images might enhanced.

LOWCC meetings are open to the public and currently take place “live on-line” with Zoom. Non-member guests are encouraged to go to info@lowccnc.com to obtain information for accessing the meeting. The club welcomes participation from photographers at all skill levels. A club membership costs $35 per year.

To offer more focused forums for small group learning and discussion, the club features two Special Interest Groups (SIGs). The Capture SIG reviews the use cameras, lighting and other photographic equipment to initially capture the digital image. This SIG meets by Zoom on the third Monday of each month starting at 7 p.m.

On the first Monday of each month, also at 7  p.m. via Zoom, the Post Processing SIG focuses on the use of computer-based processing to improve and enhance digital images. Instruction is provided on use of photographic software such as Adobe Lightroom or Topaz products as well as updates of these products.
