Martinsville photographer Rick Dawson of Dawson Photography Inc., has been recognized for superior image making and photographic service with a degree from Professional Photographers of America.

On Friday, Dawson earned the Master of Photography degree from Professional Photographers of America (PPA). The degree will be presented to Dawson by PPA President Kira Derryberry at the association’s annual convention in Louisville, Kentucky, in January, a release stated.
The Master of Photography degree means that Dawson has met the standards of excellence set by the PPA, recognizing his superior photographic competence demonstrated through image excellence, advanced education, and service to the profession, stated the release.
Dawson has been a freelance for the Martinsville Bulletin for many years and his photographs frequently appear in this newspaper.

PPA is the largest and longest-standing nonprofit photography trade association and was founded in 1868. PPA currently works with 34,000 professional photographers, elevating their craft and growing their businesses with resources and education under the guiding principle of bridging the gap between photographers and consumers, the release stated.
