On 21 November, 1941, more than 1,000 of Breslau’s residents were arrested by the police and led to a city square. After four days they boarded trains to Kovno, in Lithuania. On arrival they were shot to death. In 1942, on 9 April, almost 1,000 Jews were once more rounded up at the same location, before being transported by train to Izbica, east Poland. Two people on this later transport survived.
