WASHINGTON TWP., N.J. – Two crew members were killed when 6abc’s Action News helicopter crashed in a wooded area of Burlington County, New Jersey on Tuesday night.

A pilot and a photographer were returning from an assignment at the Jersey Shore when Chopper 6 crashed in Wharton State Forest sometime after 8 p.m.

Both were killed, 6abc says.

The station is not releasing the crew members’ names yet as family members are still being notified. 6abc did say they have a long history with their station and have been working as part of the Action News team for years.

According to 6abc, New Jersey state troopers were able to locate the crash on the ground in a difficult-to-reach area.

It’s still unclear what caused the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
