Many of the century’s most memorable images will be exhibited, including the Princess of Wales in her famous ‘revenge dress’, taken at a Vanity Fair party just hours after her husband, the then Prince Charles, admitted to having an affair. Anwar’s photo of the Princess sitting alone outside the Taj Mahal, viewed at the time as symbolic of marital strife and a profound sense of isolation, will also be included.

It was on that same 1992 trip to India that Diana was photographed shaking hands with members of the country’s lowest caste, considered ‘Untouchable’. The image is a reminder of the Princess’ empathy, an ability to demonstrate kindness in a way that effected genuine humanitarian change. Anwar was also by Diana’s side as she shook hands with an AIDS patient, capturing a moment that many historians argue marked a significant shift in public attitudes towards the illness.

Anwar’s sons, Samir and Zak, have followed in their father’s footprints. Royally accredited themselves, the photographers have taken instantly recognisable photos of the younger royals, including Prince William and Kate Middleton during tributes to the Late Queen Elizabeth, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on a trip to Morocco.

Princess Diana: Accredited Access Exhibition, which CNN called ‘one of the best immersive experiences around’, has partnered with AIDS Memory UK, a campaign that works to establish an AIDS memorial in London.

Speaking about the upcoming exhibition, Anwar said: ‘I am honoured and humbled to have been given the opportunity to photograph Princess Diana so extensively and to have had the pleasure of having many friendly and insightful conversations with her. There are so many memories of our two families connecting and creating a special relationship, which I am pleased to be able to display in such a unique way through the exhibition.’
