For Timothy Faust, taking a photo means telling a story.
A decades-long professional photographer, Faust has owned his Breckenridge business Timothy Faust Photography for the past 20 years. He offers a range of photo services from commercial work to weddings as well as sells prints from his personal collection of landscapes.
Faust won Best Photographer in this year’s Best of Summit competition.
“It’s special for me for the community to recognize what I’ve been doing here for the past decades,” Faust said.
What gets him most excited about photography, Faust said, is its storytelling aspect. One example of that is wedding photography, which he’ll usually prepare for by speaking with a client on the phone or in person, sometimes multiple times.
“When it’s about a wedding, it’s about allowing them to try to tell the story,” Faust said.
After interviewing clients, Faust said he has a deeper understanding of what they’re trying to capture. By doing so, Faust said he is able to offer a tailored photography experience that ensures quality for his patrons.
Outside of individuals, Faust works with larger organizations, ranging from architectural firms to nonprofits. Sometimes, his work takes him on the road, such as in September when he followed a group of cyclists riding from Oregon to New Jersey for cancer awareness.
“I like photographing different stuff, because it keeps it interesting,” Faust said. “By changing it up all the time, it keeps it exciting.”
Faust charges a $5,000 flat rate for wedding photography. That can be paid in two separate installments consisting of a $1,500 down payment followed by the remaining balance, or else paid in monthly installments. Colorado weddings come with no travel fee, any required travel outside of the state will cost extra.
The fee covers the full wedding day “from when you are done getting ready until the end of the reception,” according to Faust’s website. It also includes a custom 20-page photo album and free digital revisions.
