SHREVEPORT, La. – The life of renowned Shreveport photographer Neil Johnson is being remembered. Johnson died Saturday, December 23 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Johnson was 69 years old.

His legacy includes inspiring photographs that adorn countless walls around Shreveport, writing and photo contributions to publications like the Shreveport Times and Louisiana Life magazine and many photo-illustrated books. He also taught photography at Centenary College of Louisiana, where he enthusiastically shared his extensive knowledge with his students. His final years were focused on finishing two historical fiction novels.

A service to celebrate Neil’s life and his faith in the Resurrection will be held in the main sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 900 Jordan St, Shreveport, Friday, December 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. The service will be officiated by Rev. “The City of Shreveport expresses its deep sympathy to the family of renowned Shreveport photographer Neil Johnson, who died last week. Neil Johnson was a Shreveport treasure, and the Mayor’s Office is honored and proud to have one of the last exhibitions of his work in the Mayor’s suite on the second floor of Government Plaza. The exhibition highlights photographs of camellias, a favorite subject of Johnson’s. The exhibition is open to the public.”
