Texas Tech University’s School of Art will officially open its exhibit “Belonging: Contemporary Native Ceramics from the Southern Plains.”

EVENT:
The School of Art’s Landmark Arts opens “Belonging: Contemporary Native Ceramics from the Southern Plains.” The collection is curated by assistant professor Klinton Burgio-Ericson and is on display through March 23.
With its many and diverse entanglements, the concept of belonging grounds a fresh exploration of contemporary Native art in clay. This exhibit spotlights the contemporary ceramics practices among Native American artists in the region, and their reflections on belonging based in particular cultural roots, ancestral connections, personal insights, and individual experiences.
The exhibition features artwork by seven native artists living and working in the Southern Plains. Due to the size of the collection, the exhibit is housed off campus at LHUCA. The official opening will feature a keynote conversation from Karita Coffey (Comanche) and Anita Fields (Osage/Muscogee).

- Raven Halfmoon (Caddo/Choctaw/Delaware)
- Cannupa Hanska Luger (Mandan/Hidatsa/Arikara/Lakota)
- Jane Osti (Cherokee National Treasure)
- Cortney YellowHorse-Metzger (Osage)
Media and the public are invited to attend the keynote conversation followed by a reception in the galleries at 8:30 p.m.
