The University of Jamestown is holding an art, photography and poetry competition for Martin Lutheran King Day. The theme is “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.”
This competition is open to UJ students, stsaff and faculty and the community at large. One entry per person per category is allowed.
The deadline to submit entries is 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1`1, with judging occurring the following week.
Prizes of $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded to first, second and third place in each category. Details for each category:
- Art category: handmade with any medium besides photography or poetry, for example, a drawing, painting or sculpture. The art must be transported by the creator to the Orlady/McKenna Theilsch building, office 229. A label should be attached with the title of the piece. On a separate piece of paper indicate the title, your name, email, ph one number and short description of item.
- Photography category: black and white or color photography may be entered. Print the entry, no larger than 8 x 10 and ready for display (example: mounted or framed). On the back, indicate a title for the piece, your name, em ail, phone number and if desired, a short explanation or story about the photo.
- Poetry category: email entries to pbriese@uj.edu. Include a title page with name, email and phone number. Poetry will be printed off for display or you may bring it articially prepared for display. Entries will be considered for inclusion in the Plainsong University of Jamestown publication.
The Orlady/McKenna Theilsch building is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for drop-off between Jan. 8-11. After hours, place items on the couches or on the floor in the lobby next to Penny Briese’s office (Orlady 229) in the nursing department on the third floor. Call 701-320-0010 for other drop-off arrangements and leave a message with contact information if no answer. Display will occur in the glass cases between the Student Engagement Center and the Knight Hall from Jan. 15-31. Cards with your name and the title of your piece will be added for display after judging. Pick up submitted contest items from the UJ Nursing Department lobby between Jan. 31-Feb. 17. All unclaimed items will be disposed of.
